North Bests O’Hara 3-0 @ Lighthouse

The hangover from yesterday’s disastrous news still lingers in the air as our boys take on a game Cardinal O’Hara team.  The feeling before the game was if we were at a viewing, not really sure what to say one another.  But the great thing about being from North, there isn’t anything to be said.  Just knowing how you feel and how you support our teams is enough.  Keep the faith, we must carry on.

I am sure we as coaches were tentative in our assessment of how the boys would react but they came out with their game faces on.  Through much of the first half, North dominated in possession and opportunities.  Several shots went wide or over the bar while most of the half was played in O’Hara’s half of the field. You had a feeling that we might head into half tied at zeros but in the 24 minute, North struck for the first goal.  What really started the play was the previous play as is always the case.  O’Hara, trying to clear the ball and relieve the pressure, sent a low ball to midfield.  Sr. Mark Brown, on a great slide tackle cleanly knocked the ball back into the offensive zone for a goal kick.  On the ensuing kick, North gained possession.  Hall took a pass at central midfield and found Dan Micucci on the right flank.  Somewhat off balance, Micucci was able to cross the ball from the right to left onto the feet of Sr. Ira Woodruff. Ira was able to volley first time past the keeper to put North up 1-0.  In the following 15 minutes, North buzzed all around the goal with O’Hara’s keeper making three great saves to keep the score only 1-0 at half.

In the second half, North continued with the assault.  Again dominating possession in O’Hara’s end, North mounted several attempts at goal.  Many of our shots were either over the bar or wide of the net.  In the 55th minute though, North struck for its second goal. As has been the story of the past couple of games, Khristian Hall and Pablo Martinez have done yeoman’s work in possession, finding teammates and running the offense.  In this particular case, Martinez gained possession about 35 out.  With Hall making a diagonal run from the right post to the left and Woodruff sprinting on the left flank into the box, Martinez became isolated with one on one coverage.  He easily beat his mark, took a couple of touches and blasted a low hard shot past the O’Hara keeper to make the score 2-0.  In the final 15 minutes, Micucci struck for the final tally from Hall.  Hall, as he has done all game, possessed in the box and beat his man to the line on the right side of goal.  He slipped a pass onto the on running Micucci, how took on touch and beat the keeper to make the final score 3-0.
