2nd Half Goal Lifts LaSalle into
North got to the field unusually early on Tuesday. The primary reason is that Bob Pfefle, head coach of LaSalle asked Jerry Brindisi if Jerry would mind if he gathered all the players and said a prayer in recognition of North’s past and hopeful future. He also told Jerry that they would wear red arm bands in support of our cause of “NO SURRENDER.” We appreciate the support from non-North supporters and it appears that more and more people realize how important it is for the City for a school like North to remain open. What we need is for more support internally to help secure the future for our boys. Oh yes, there was a game too and actually a very good game. LaSalle edged the Falcons on a goal midway through the second half. For, say 78 minutes, the Falcons played a really good game, especially in their back and the midfield. However, in the offensive end, not many shots hit the net and our service from the sides was lacking. One mistake proved to be the difference. After being awarded a free kick from 30 yards, North advanced many of its midfielders to the far post. Sophomore Matt Martinez was assigned to the kick. Seeing some daylight over the LaSalle wall and the keeper minding the far side, Matt decided to have a crack at goal. However, his canon shot hit the wall and rebounded towards midfield beyond most of our players. It soon became a 2 on 2 for sixty yards. The LaSalle attackers were able to free themselves with one breaking in on McCarthy unmarked. McCarthy came out hard but the LaSalle attacker coolly chipped a ball into the unmanned net. For the final 20 minutes, North pushed for the equalizer but really did not get too many shots on net. The closest was a picker, off a corner by Matt Martinez that just missed the top corner. There are only three games left in the regular season. The Falcons have clinched a playoff birth and these three games are for seeding purposes. These games are as follows: Friday, October 16 @ Bonner @ 3:30 Tuesday, October 20 @ UGH vs. Judge @ 8 PM Friday, October 23 @ Ryan @ 7 PM We hope and pray that these are not the last PCL regular season games, come on out and root the boys on, they can use your support, so can we! |
